Achieve your potential with wireless sensor technology, now available at Physiotec, Brisbane
ViMove uses wireless sensor technology to accurately and objectively measure movement and muscle activity
Wireless sensors are placed on your body and record movement and muscle activity, helping to pinpoint potential areas of concern. The system can then be used immediately to provide real time biofeedback on a computer screen, allowing you to quickly visualise the problem yourself and make the necessary changes as directed by one of our experienced physios.
There are currently a number of excellent ViMove applications, with more developments constantly underway. The current modules assist in the assessment of lower back pain, knee pain, functional lumbopelvic control and running technique.
LOWER BACK PAIN

The lower back module allows us to assess all ranges of lower back motion in standing, your sitting posture and your ability to change your back and pelvic position in a seated position.
These things are usually assessed by a physiotherapist, but visual assessment is not able to provide the objective measurements provided by the accelerometer (sensor) technology.
We can now collect reliable data on side to side asymmetry, compare your movement to that of the greater population without back pain, and track improvements over time. Electromyography (EMG) sensors applied over the muscles of the lower back also allow us to assess if you have too little or too much activity in this musculature. We can then move to feedback mode or an interactive game platform to help with your real time retraining.
KNEE PAIN

A major contributor to the development of knee pain is a lack of ideal control of knee alignment during functional tasks such as squatting, moving between sitting and standing, climbing and descending stairs, and landing from a jump or hop.
The knee module includes assessments of squatting and hopping, providing information not only on alignment control, but how far and how quickly you naturally bend your knee in preparation for and landing from a low effort and a full effort hop.
Using either too little or too much bend can be problematic for the knee – too little bend reflecting a stiff/rigid movement pattern with poor ability to shock absorb, while flexing the knee too deeply may result in very high forces behind the patella.
A very rapid acceleration of the tibia throughout landing may also result in loads that are applied too quickly for the body to safely dissipate, potentially contributing to injury or pain. ViMove can help us identify these issues, retrain your movement pattern and track your improvements over time.
FUNCTIONAL LUMBOPELVIC CONTROL

This module is also called the ‘core’ module. It uses the sensor placements on the lower back and pelvis and includes assessment of pelvic and lower back control during standard Functional Movement Screening (FMS) tasks such as Hurdle Step, In-Line Lunge and Overhead Squat. These are basic skills that any land based athlete or gym goer should possess.
Poor control on these tests may be a factor in the development of a large range of problems from back, hip and pelvic pain, to knee, shin and calf pain, foot and ankle injuries. If you have poor pelvic and ‘core’ control the influence can also extend to the upper body, particularly in overhead throwing athletes or those whose work involves using their arms overhead.
So whether you are recovering from an injury or want to reduce your risk of an injury, this ViMove application will help you ensure you have good technique for the gym, your sport or recreational activity, or a physical occupation.
RUNNING TECHNIQUE

Through the use of the ViMove wearable sensor technology we are able to much more accurately assess and improve your running style. By applying the wearable sensors to a runner’s tibia we can effectively measure your gait cycle, contact time, vertical loading rate (g-force), ground reaction force and symmetry pattern. This helps us identify potential problems that may be impacting on a running injury and/or on your performance.
This is perfect for weekend athletes right through to marathon runners and elite level athletes whether the aim is to recover from pain or injury, prevent injury or improve performance. At Physiotec we use this technology alongside video analysis to provide you with a detailed running analysis.
